Introduction to A Level English Language

A Level English Language at Sandy Secondary School is an engaging and analytical programme that explores how language works, how it shapes our identities, and how it changes over time. Examined by AQA, this course develops students' understanding of linguistic concepts and methods of language analysis, equipping them with skills that are highly valued across a wide range of university courses and careers.

The core content covers textual variations and representations, children's language development from birth to age eleven, language diversity and change, language discourses, writing skills, language investigation, and original writing. Methods of language analysis are integrated throughout all components, ensuring students develop a sophisticated analytical toolkit.

Students need a minimum of a Grade 6 at GCSE to study English Language in the Sixth Form. This is a versatile qualification desirable to many universities and employers, often seen as particularly beneficial for careers in Law, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, and new technologies such as Blogging, Project Management, and IT.
