A Level Environmental Science at Sandy Secondary School is an increasingly popular and vital subject that explores the complex relationship between human activity and the natural world. Examined by AQA, this two-year programme covers seven interconnected modules that equip students with the knowledge and skills to understand and address the environmental challenges facing our planet.
Students study the living environment and the interaction of organisms with their surroundings, the physical environment and how human activities are interconnected with physical processes, and energy resources including the importance of energy supply and the impact of future energy problems. The course also examines pollution and how the properties of materials and energy forms result in environmental change, biological resources and the challenges of feeding a growing population without damaging life support systems, sustainability and the interconnected nature of environmental problems and solutions, and research methods used to investigate environmental issues.
Environmental science is one of the fastest-growing areas of employment, with wide-ranging links to the current climate crisis and the ways in which the world needs to be shaped to ensure the healthy survival of our planet.
