A Level Geography at Sandy Secondary School is a broad-based academic subject that is well respected by employers and universities alike. Examined by Edexcel, this course explores the dynamic relationship between physical processes and human activity, equipping students with analytical and research skills that lead to one of the highest rates of graduate employment of any discipline.
The course covers four units across two years. Physical Geography examines tectonic processes and hazards, coastal landscapes and change, the water cycle and water insecurity, and the carbon cycle and energy security. Human Geography explores globalisation, regenerating places, superpowers, and health, human rights and intervention. A synoptic investigation links these themes through a geographical issue in a place-based context, and an independent coursework study allows students to conduct their own research.
Please note that students will be required to attend a residential field trip in order to complete this course, included in four days of compulsory fieldwork. This hands-on experience is invaluable for developing practical geographical skills and enriching students' understanding of the subject.
