Introduction to A Level Media Studies

A Level Media Studies at Sandy Secondary School explores the dynamic and ever-evolving world of media through a rigorous theoretical framework. Examined by AQA, students study Media Language, Industries, Audiences, and Representation through Close Study Products across nine different media forms, developing both analytical and practical creative skills.

The course covers a diverse range of media forms including advertising and marketing, film, magazines, television (including foreign language TV series), music videos, video games, newspapers, radio, and online social and participatory media. This breadth ensures students develop a comprehensive understanding of how media shapes and reflects our world.

A significant part of the course involves practical production work, where students create their own cross-media production for an intended audience, applying the theoretical framework to real creative projects. This hands-on element develops teamwork, ICT skills, and creative thinking that are highly valued by universities and employers in the media industry.
