Introduction to A Level Physical Education

A Level Physical Education at Sandy Secondary School applies theoretical knowledge to physical situations, helping students understand how the body and mind work in sport. Examined by AQA, this course combines rigorous academic study with practical performance assessment, preparing students for careers and higher education in sport and beyond.

The course covers six key areas: Anatomy and Physiology, Skill Acquisition, Socio-Cultural Studies relating to participation in physical activity, Sports Psychology, Biomechanics, and Exercise and Sport Physiology. This breadth of study ensures students develop a comprehensive understanding of sport from both scientific and social perspectives.

A practical assessment in one sport is also involved, whereby students can take on the role of a performer or a coach. Students are strongly recommended to be actively engaged in sports outside of school, and all students will be required to compete in a chosen sport or activity to a high standard.
