Introduction to A Level Politics

A Level Politics at Sandy Secondary School is one of the most lively, debate-inspiring and relevant subjects you can study. Examined by Edexcel, this course provides an insight into how the UK and American political systems work, and shows students how they can get involved in the political system of their country.

The course is made up of three units. Unit 1 covers UK Politics, including democracy and participation, political parties, electoral systems, voting behaviour and the media, alongside core political ideas including conservatism, liberalism, and socialism. Unit 2 examines UK Government — the constitution, parliament, Prime Minister and executive, and relationships between the branches.

Unit 3 offers a comparative dimension through US Politics and Government, covering the US Constitution and federalism, US Congress, US presidency, US Supreme Court and civil rights, democracy and participation, and comparative theories. Students also study one non-core political idea from anarchism, ecologism, feminism, multiculturalism, or nationalism.
