Beyond Academics: Enrichment in Sixth Form

Sixth Form life is not just about studying academic subjects. We want you to develop as a person as well. To this end we offer a number of enrichment opportunities that will broaden and deepen your knowledge and understanding, develop essential skills for life and work, and help you stand out from the crowd when you apply for jobs, apprenticeships and university places.

Our enrichment programme showcases your independent learning skills and personal development alongside your academic studies. Whether you are interested in leadership, charity work, research, mentoring or exploring new talents, there is something here for everyone. These opportunities are highly valued by many universities and employers as evidence of your commitment to wider learning.

We are constantly looking to expand the opportunities that you have in your time with us and welcome any suggestion for other activities that you would enjoy.

Our Enrichment Programme

Sixth Form Council

Have a role helping to shape the future of Sandy Secondary School Sixth Form.

Charity Activities

Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning, non-uniform days and our Senior Citizens' Christmas Party, hosted for over 30 years.

EPQ

Extended Project Qualification — a research-based project of your own choice, highly valued by many universities and employers as it showcases your independent learning skills.

LIBF

London Institute of Banking and Finance qualification. Ideal if you are interested in a career in business or finance.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

An opportunity for you to discover new interests and talents. A tool to develop essential skills for life and work; a recognised mark of achievement, respected by employers.

Reading Scheme

Help younger students who find reading more difficult. Ideal for those considering careers in teaching or the caring professions.

Student Mentoring

Use your skills and knowledge to help others. Perfect for those thinking of a career in teaching or the caring professions.

The Super Curriculum

A booklet containing activities for you to complete independently that will broaden and deepen your knowledge and understanding, helping you stand out from the crowd when you apply for jobs, apprenticeships and university places.

Key Resources & Information

If you are thinking of a career in teaching or any of the caring professions, the Reading Scheme and Student Mentoring programme offer valuable hands-on experience helping others. For those interested in a career in business or finance, the LIBF qualification could be for you. And if you want to showcase your independent learning skills, the EPQ is highly valued by many universities and employers.

  • All enrichment opportunities are open to Sixth Form students. Some activities, such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Reading Scheme, may have specific requirements or limited spaces.
  • Speak to your form tutor or the Sixth Form team to find out more about any of the opportunities listed. Many activities are promoted during form time and through the Sixth Form notice board.
  • We are constantly looking to expand the opportunities that you have in your time with us and welcome any suggestion for other activities that you would enjoy. Speak to the Sixth Form Council or your form tutor with your ideas.
