Destinations & Next Steps

Department for Education destination data tracks where our students go in the year after they leave school. The tables opposite cover five published datasets.

The Year 11 destinations tab shows headline destination categories (Education, Training, Employment, NEET) for Sandy Secondary School's 2024 and 2023 leavers alongside the Central Bedfordshire 2024 average. The Education & Employment detail tab breaks that down further across school sixth form, sixth form college, FE college, other post-16 routes, apprenticeships, and employment with or without accredited training.

The Year 11 Sustained tab and Year 13 tab cover five years of published data, from 2018/19 to 2022/23. Across our Year 11 cohorts, between 90% and 97% of leavers continued in sustained education, employment or training, with between 80% and 90% staying in some form of education. At Year 13, 90% of 2022/23 leavers progressed to sustained education, employment or training, with 40% staying in education and 48% entering employment.

The final tab shows our sixth-form retention onto main programmes of study and the qualification type mix. The DfE notes that 2019/20 and 2020/21 cohorts were significantly impacted by Covid-19; figures reflect students who maintained their courses from October to March of the relevant reporting period.
