Introduction to Creative & Performing Arts

The RSL Tech Level in Creative and Performing Arts is a new course being offered for the first time at Sandy Secondary School. Awarded by RSL (Awarding the Contemporary Arts), this practical qualification allows students to choose their own pathway: Acting, Musical Theatre, or Dance. It can be taken alongside other performance-related A Levels including Drama and Theatre Studies and Dance.

Students will have access to the school's brand new theatre and its top-of-the-range facilities, including brand new stage lighting and a new sound system to showcase their work. Through the course, students learn to perform effectively, rehearse and display acting, performance, and dance skills, initiate and develop repertoire, and understand contextual issues relating to acting styles, theatrical genres, and the performing arts industry.

This course is coursework and practical based with no formal written exam — all work is either internally or externally marked. To succeed, students must have a keen interest in Drama, Dance, or Musical Theatre, and be a capable performer with some experience performing to an audience. Successful artists such as Ed Sheeran and Jess Glynne studied this course!
