Comprehensive training in Child Protection is provided to all staff members on a regular basis, ensuring they remain up to date with the latest safeguarding practices and statutory requirements. Students are educated on whom they can approach if they face any issues, whether that involves speaking to form tutors, heads of house, school counsellors, or our dedicated Safeguarding Team. Our staff remains vigilant for signs of abuse and follows strict protocols, reporting any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or one of the deputies. Every member of our community plays a role in keeping children safe, and we encourage a culture of openness where concerns can be raised without hesitation.
We believe that safeguarding is not just the responsibility of one team, but a whole-school commitment. This means that every staff member, from teachers to administrative personnel, understands their role in protecting our students. Whilst our objective is to collaborate closely with parents and carers to help students flourish and positively contribute to the community, there are occasional situations where we might need to involve other agencies before reaching out to parents or carers. This may occur when there are concerns about a child's immediate safety or welfare. Sandy Secondary School rigorously follows the guidelines provided by the Central Bedfordshire Safeguarding Children Partnership. As part of our commitment, we have a dedicated Safeguarding Team who work tirelessly to ensure every child in our care is protected and supported.
Our safeguarding approach is embedded into everything we do—from the curriculum and pastoral care to how we manage visitors, recruitment, and day-to-day school life. We teach students about personal safety, healthy relationships, and how to recognise and report concerning behaviour. Our recruitment procedures are thorough and include enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service checks for all staff members.
